Wallet-Friendly Fun

Money can be tight for a college student, but that doesn’t mean we should sacrifice fun to stay above the red numbers. As we adventure deeper into the fall season more fun and budget-friendly activities will open up for us.

  • Jeter Farm: Found at 181 Blue Ridge Boulevard, this farm is a great place to visit with friends and family. Find your way out of a corn maze, or rather get lost in it as I did, look at all the cute animals, and enjoy delicious food from their vendors during their fall festival on the weekends!
  • Hiking: Outdoor Adventures offers plenty of outdoor hiking throughout the fall. Crush the fallen leaves, photograph the beautiful scenery, or even enjoy a picnic sitting outside! Fall is a time of change for the environment, so hiking provides you with first-class seats to watch these changes in front of your own eyes.
  • Ghost tours: We can’t mention fall without mentioning ghosts; every year the Salem Museum offers “Ghost Walks” that take you through a historic graveyard in which you will see plenty of “spirits” and learn a little bit more about the history of the place. This Friday and Saturday from 6 pm to 8 pm you can join a tour.

There is always something you can do without spending too much money. Read ghost stories with friends, make yourself a fall-themed drink (or get one from Rooney’s) and enjoy it during a walk, or watch your favorite comfort movies. By yourself or with people, fun can happen in the simplest situations. You just have to be willing to have it.
