Settling back into a routine looks different for everyone at Roanoke. For some, it means
beginning their final semester, while for others it means starting their very first or
stepping into a new role on campus. With Family Weekend just around the corner,
Maroons are embracing a blend of new routines and familiar traditions.
In response to If you were to add another required course to the curriculum, what
subject would you choose?”
Jasmine McFadden ’25 said, “I believe all students should take a sociology course,
mostly because we’re all members of society and are impacted by system issues and
institutional beliefs and practices. Many people aren’t aware of these influences or think
they don’t apply to them simply because they aren’t directly affected. I think having a
required course in this subject would help us grow as a community and better
understand one another.”
In response to “Are you excited for Family Weekend? What are your plans?”
Grayson Boone ‘27 said, “I am excited about Family Weekend. I am thinking of invited
my mother to Salem for lunch on Saturday, that should be a lot of fun.”
In response to “How are you settling into the routine of a new college and
environment?”
Alayna Graves, Director for LGBTQ+ Support and Success, said, “Everyone has been so
nice to me and incredibly welcoming. Students, faculty, and staff have been excited
about having my position here at Roanoke, especially now that it’s finally filled. Overall,
I am thankful for the warm reception I’ve received, and it feels rewarding, as a gay
person, to take on such a role and have it be so well received. This is truly meaningful
to me and to other students, to be able to serve as a support system for LGBTQ+
students.”
