Maroons Talk: Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day. The holiday of love, chocolate, roses, and romance. Or a holiday of hating everybody around you that dares to be in love this season. While Valentine’s Day might be divisive it doesn’t mean that people don’t celebrate it. Singles and coupled-up people alike. Needless to say, people have strong opinions about how to spend this day of love, and today we will hear from 3 of them. 

Chase Gentile ‘25

Probably go out for dinner with my boyfriend. We might go to Mac and Bob’s or something fancier yet still college kid cheap. A little picnic under the stars watching a movie, something like Momma Mia. They are such cute movies, and they are perfect for valentine’s day. I feel like valentine’s day is somewhat of a useless holiday, we do not really need just one day to spread love or feel loved but on the other hand you know that you have someone with you throughout your life and it is nice to dedicate time to celebrating that. Also, you get roses. 

Skylar Digou ‘25 

I do not have any plans so far, but I do want to make a Galantines date night for my friends. We will probably have a cute dinner, watch a movie, and have popcorn. My ideal romantic date though would be doing something fun, like an escape room or painting together and then having a chill dinner. Nothing too fancy, but enough so that I can dress up. And I would want to be given roses. I think you should celebrate it whether it be a relationship, your besties or just a self-care night. I’ll probably do something self-care themed like take a nice long shower using all my best products, then watch Grey’s Anatomy and have snacks. 

Tallyn Corwin ‘23 

As of right now I don’t have any solid plans, but my boyfriend does love to spoil me and might surprise me! My dream valentine’s day us just a movie night in with Chick Fil A. Easy, simple, ya know? My boyfriend and I choose a day to spoil each other that isn’t Valentine’s day just because I think the assumption that being the only day to show you leave is other is stupid, we should love each other every day.
