Maroons Talk: Winter Reflections

As the winter chill settles in and students return from their winter break, many are reflecting on their experiences and the little things that make this season unique. From thrilling adventures to quiet moments of contemplation, the winter months often bring both excitement and deep thought. In this article, we take a look at some of the ways Roanoke College students embraced their winter break and how they are making the most of the cold wealthier as the semester gets underway.

In response to “What was the most exciting or thrilling thing that happened over winter break?”

Jamie Brooks ’26 said, “I got to go spend New Year’s at the Outer Banks with one of my friends over break. It was pretty exciting for me.”

In response to “Are you enjoying the winter weather while it lasts?”

Haan Vipperman ‘25 said, “The winter weather lets me reflect on the trivial things. I love seeing all the tiny snowmen that people make, the way icicles form on trees, and piles of snow everywhere.”

In response to the question “What is your favorite snow-like activity?”

Andrea Flores ‘26 said, “My favorite snow-like activity would be sledding because I can’t fall as easily as ice skates. It is a lot of fun going down a hill at full speed. Last Saturday, I went with some family friends to a snowy hill and one of my family friends made a ramp midway and I went flying off it when I went down, it was exciting.”
