Main Street Series: Wondrous Books & More

One of the benefits of living on a campus as small as ours is that you’re never more than
ten minutes away from Main Street. Despite this, it can be all too easy for students to stay home
and within their bubble. For the next few weeks, this series will be taking a closer look at some
of the incredible businesses available to us on Main Street, and encouraging you to stop by!
The first business we’ll hear from is Wondrous Books & More. Sure, students always
need books for classes, but this bookstore has so much more to offer. They have a wide array of
genres, they’re partnered with a herbary, and it’s all packed into a perfectly aesthetic,
welcoming, and magical shop! To give us a glimpse, Savannah Oaks, the owner, spoke to me
this week.
Q: How did you get started in this business?
A: In early 2020 I saw an ad on Facebook about the local bookstore up for sale. I have
always loved to read and sharing that with the community I grew up in was a dream come true.
We are about to turn five in March and can not wait to see what we do in the future.
Q: Do you get to interact with students often?
A: I love it when the Roanoke College students come in and browse, we are hoping to
work closely with the college in the future for more events.
Q: How does being close to campus affect your business?
A: Being next to Roanoke College means that we try to stay up to date on the popular
books, and the latest trends.
Q: Tell us a little bit about your partnership with Salem Magickal Herbary! How did this
combination of stores begin?
A: Salem Magickal Herbary specializes in dried organic herbs for all crafting purposes.
We decided to open the Herbary as an extension of Wonderous Books & more as a way to
reach those who are interested in discovering the old folk magic and art that is part of this area’s
history.
Q: Any other thoughts?
A: Follow Wonderous Books & more on Instagram and Facebook to see all the great
deals and events we have planned for this semester.
