For much of the 1980s, one of the standout sections of The Brackety-Ack was the beloved column, “And So They Say.” This weekly feature invited college community members to answer quirky “Questions of the Week.” Fast-forward to today, and the tradition of candid responses still brings a sense of nostalgia and community. In honor of Alumni Weekend, we’ve decided to revisit some of the questions that defined the column during this decade. Below are a few modern answers that highlight the humor and heart of the college community that has continued to shine.
In response to “What is your favorite facial expression?”
Dr. Lauren Kennedy-Metz ‘14 said, “While maybe not the most direct answer to this question, I still think this one is pretty good and I would love to credit Griffin the photographer for this one. There is a fun thing that everyone should try to do, which is mixing facial expressions. An example would be to smile with your mouth but frown with your eyes and vice versa.”
In response to “If you could have a date with anyone, who would it be?”
Paige Ward ‘04 said, “While I am happily married to my lovely husband, Kristopher, I do have an exciting choice. If I could have a date with anyone then it would have to be Ryan Reynolds.”
In response to “If you were an escapee, where would you run to?”
Donovan Hill ‘21 said, “I was an escapee, I would probably escape to the Outback in Australia. There is just so much beautiful plant and animal life. Plus, some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.”
