With final exam season creeping upon us, this is a point in the semester where stress and nervousness run rampant across the campus. If you are among the victims of exam-related nerves, fear not! I have a few unconventional suggestions that will hopefully help you as much as they help me!
First up: drink your favorite drink or eat your favorite snack while you study. I’ve found that a reward system where I do the work and then get a treat does not really motivate me. However, when I have my treat while I study, my brain associates the treat with studying more, and I find myself more motivated to be more productive.
Next: change locations semi-frequently. Whenever you find a natural pausing point in your studying or assignment, get up and have a change of scenery! This works for me because it prevents me from feeling stagnant and helps me refresh and recharge enough to make it to the next pausing (or even the stopping) point.
Finally: good hygiene can ease so much stress. When I shower the night before my exam and wear my comfiest clothes the day of the test, I tend to feel much more relaxed and confident and perform better on whatever exam or presentation I am attempting.
Unfortunately, these may not work for everyone. We are all unique, with different methods that work best for each of us. If the tricks I mentioned aren’t quite doing it for you, that’s okay too! I wish everyone luck on their finals and hope we all get through together!
