Valentine’s Day is here! With it comes a flurry of excitement as students think about what they would love to receive on this special day. Whether it’s a sentimental gesture or a playful surprise, the gifts that warm hearts are as varied as the people giving them. A recent campus poll asked students to share their top picks for the perfect Valentine’s Day gift.
The clear favorite in the poll was plushies, which received a whopping 11 votes. There are so many options available — from cuddly teddy bears to quirky characters or themed animals. Their variety allows them to suit all personalities, which makes them a popular choice for many students.
Second to the plushies was the classic heartfelt card, which secured 7 votes. A card allows for a more personal and intimate expression of love, making it a great choice for many.
Close behind were flowers, garnering 6 votes and continuing their role as a timeless symbol of romance. While traditional flowers remain a popular option, one student mentioned a more unique twist on the classic gift — LEGO flowers. “I think LEGO flowers would be a perfect gift. They’re creative, fun, and last a lot longer than real flowers,” said one student. “It is a great way to combine something sentimental with a little bit of playfulness, and you can even make the flowers together, which adds a personal touch to the experience.”
Chocolate and candy are commonly sold in stores as a classic Valentine’s Day treat, often seen as a go-to gift for many. Despite their popularity, the poll reveals that students at Roanoke College don’t view them as the most sentimental option, with only 2 votes. It appears that most prefer gifts that carry a deeper, more personal meaning.
