Polling Maroons: Traveling Dates

Romance is in the air at Roanoke College, and with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, Maroons are finding ways to spend time with significant others (or even friends!). Whether it’s a fancy restaurant, a sunny beach, or just the comfort of your own home; there’s no one way to go on a date. A recent poll asked Maroons whether they prefer traveling out of the country, within the country, or close to home when making plans for a date.

The voting data was gathered from two groups: one through a personalized poll where students could be directly contacted for more commentary, and the other via anonymous voting on YikYak.

The results revealed a rather shocking contrast between anonymous and personal voters.

The overall winner that came out on top was “out of the country,” with a total of 53 votes (51 anonymous and 2 personal). Maroons love taking on adventures. Whether it’s to Greece or to France, there is one thing for certain: their dates will be nothing but magical.

“My love language is acts of vacation, words of confirmed flights, and quality time abroad.” said an anonymous student.

In second place came close to home dates with a total of 41 votes (35 anonymous and 6 personal). Nothing beats a nice restaurant or picnic close to home when it comes to saving money.

In a close last place came traveling within the country for a date, with a total of 31 votes (29 anonymous and 3 personal). While out-of-the-country dates are a bougier choice, many students found themselves preferring a date within the country. With so many beautiful cities to choose from within the country, it’s hard to choose the best location.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Maroons. Spend the time with your loved ones and share with the world what makes your day special.
