Polling Maroons: Spring Activities

The first day of spring has finally arrived, and students at Roanoke college are excited to welcome the new season. After the long cold season and unpredictable weather, it is refreshing to embrace the warmth, sunshine, and the promise of outdoor activities. To get a sense of how students are celebrating the start of spring, we recently polled them on their favorite springtime activities.

The top response was “hiking,” which received 9 votes. It seems many students are eager to hit the trails and enjoy the fresh spring air, whether it is a peaceful walk or a more challenging hike.

“Picnicking” came in second with 8 votes. Whether it is a casual lunch on the quad or a gathering in a local park like Longwood Park, students are excited to spend time outside with friends.

Next, “gardening” earned 7 votes. Spring is the perfect time to plant flowers, vegetables, or simply enjoy the beauty of nature. Roanoke College’s very own garden on Hawthorn Road provides a great space for students to get their hands dirty and connect on a new level.

“Camping” received 3 votes, with some students excited to spend nights under the stars as the weather warms up. For those who don’t want to venture too far from campus, Outdoor Adventures offers Camp on Campus, a fun and convenient way to experience camping right here at Roanoke.

Finally, there was one vote for “sunbathing,” as one student shared, “I am just looking forward to lying in the sun and soaking up the good weather.”
