Welcome back, Maroons! Our first break of the semester came and went, and we’re back to the college groove. For many of us, that means finding the right pick-me-up to power through post-break sleep habits. To find out what’s fueling the campus’s comeback, a recent poll asked students to pick their favorite go-to wake-up drink: water, energy drinks, coffee, or soda.
The data was gathered from two groups: one through a personalized poll where students could be directly contacted for more commentary, and the other via anonymous voting on YikYak.
Starting off strong, the drink that dominated the poll was water – simple, reliable and surprisingly popular. With 104 total responses (99 anonymous and 5 personal), many students said a cold glass of water is all they need to shake off their sleep and start the day feeling refreshed and energized.
Coming in second place, coffee proved it’s still the fuel choice for many. With 56 total responses (48 anonymous and 8 personal), students said that a good cup of joe helped them stay grounded during this transition from sleep to class.
Following close behind, energy drinks came in next. With 50 total responses (43 anonymous and 7 personal), we found that a spark of Celsius or Red Bull was all some students needed to wake up in the morning and feel recharged for the day. “Sometimes you need something fruiter and lighter to wake you up,” said one anonymous student, “which for me is all of the time.”
Finally, taking the cake for the last place, we have soda with 22 total responses (20 anonymous and 2 personal). While an unpopular choice and surely not for everyone, it’s the favorite for some.
From cold brews to cold water, Maroons are finding ways to power through the semester. What’s powering you?
