As a college student myself, I tend to assume certain things about other college students. For example, we are all broke and learning all the necessary skills to live on our own. Among these is cooking!
You may have a small amount of swipes that leave you one or two meals short at the end of the week, or you may not have a meal plan at all! This leaves you with the tedious task of figuring out what to eat and cooking it. Cooking is neither an easy nor a cheap task. I have learned a thing or two by now and, like a great grandma, I’m passing these down to you.
Don’t overestimate the power of seasoning. You may consider salt and pepper to be plenty flavorful to add to your meals, but I promise you, this will quickly get boring. Spending a good amount of money on seasonings can be the difference between eating the same bland meal every day and feeling like a MasterChef winner. It gives you variety.
Speaking of variety, we have vegetables, fruits, carbs, and protein. If you want to feel energized to work on the ten thousand assignments you keep putting off, you need to give your body all of the nutrients it needs. Frozen vegetables and fruits are a cheap and great option to work with.
Finally, have a microwaveable option available. After working so hard for your Michelin-starred meals, there might be a day when you are just exhausted. This comes in clutch at those times. Nutrition is important, but frozen pizza rolls are always better than no food at all.
