Roanoke Football VS. Gallaudet University

On September 27th in the Salem Stadium, another fearsome opponent fought against our resilient Maroons.

Based in Washington D.C., Gallaudet University is notable for being a school primarily populated by students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Their ASL program is regarded as one of the best in the country, and their players even have custom helmets that specifically integrate visual and digital communications during the game. This brings an endless amount of possibilities for signals and plays for Gallaudet, making them an unpredictable foe for ‘Noke.

The first quarter starts off strong from our own #30 sophomore Ethan Cyr making a 27-yard field goal. #24 sophomore Tyson Miller wildly scored two second quarter touchdowns, establishing a 17-0 in favor of Roanoke. Gallaudet charged back however near the end of the first half, sneaking a touchdown to end the half with a 17-7 score. Straight from the opening of the third quarter, #5 junior Kam Hill ran an insane 99-yard drive, topping it off with a 10-yard pass to #81 freshmen Malcolm Levenberry to execute a stellar touchdown. Furthermore, ‘Noke capitalized against with a 6-play, 47-yard drive finished with #27 sophomore Polo Hill making a touchdown run. The early fourth quarter went even crazier with Hill throwing a 31-yard pass to #4 sophomore Grey Deal for yet another touchdown, making the score an overwhelming 38-7 lead for the Maroons. Gallaudet managed to make another touchdown near the end, but the damage was done: Roanoke preserved with a 38-14 winning score, continuing a 3-0 streak.

Stay tuned for the next upcoming Sunday Special on the Brackety-Ack website: Roanoke VS. Randolph-Macon on October 4th, 2:00PM in the Salem Stadium!
