Men’s Volleyball Regular Season Recap

Men’s volleyball has been on a winning streak recently as their regular season comes to an end. The team’s overall record comes to 21 wins and 7 losses with a win percentage of 75%. Most of the losses have come from top 25 opponents who have multiple stats in the top 10, but Roanoke College also has a top 10 stat in average assists per set. That statistic seems to suggest that the team plays as one unit and does the bump, set, spike strategy more effectively than other teams. The team is also averaging two blocks per set, with the team having seven blocks in their last match-up with Shenandoah.

Outside hitter Jackson Rutkowski has been on a hot streak this season, but more specifically in the past two matches. Against Averett University, Rutkowski had 9 kills, not sparing his opponents from a ruthless game. The second game last weekend between the Maroons and the Hornets of Shenandoah University featured Rutkowski again showing some skill with 7 digs and 3 blocks.

Another notable Maroon athlete in the 2026 season is right side hitter Pierce Faulcon. Standing at 6’7, the right side hitter is a force to be reckoned with, both offensively and defensively. In a game against Lynchburg last month, Faulcon had 4 blocks, which led the team. He can also hit the ball to produce kills in a game (about seven on average), and the senior is expected to finish the season strong, both on and off the court.

While the regular season has come to a successful close, the ODAC tournament and championship game is just around the corner. Roanoke College will be hosting the tournament throughout this week with the culmination being Saturday, April 11th. The team played yesterday against either Lynchburg or Eastern Mennonite, two teams we have beaten earlier in the season. If we should beat them again, the Maroons will advance to the ODAC Championship and potentially have the chance to make the national tournament.
