Roanoke Track Cruises at Colonial Relays

Roanoke College Track and Field has had an excellent start to their season, having a relay based meet last weekend in Williamsburg at William and Mary. Competing against primarily division one schools, Roanoke athletes put on an admirable performance.

In the 800-meter dash, Junior Allie Gallaher placed 24th with a time of 2:24 setting a personal record while sophomore Ava Wray was not too far behind; bearing a personal best time of 2:25. Galleher’s 800 time now ranks #6 in the entire Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) for the year. Gallaher and Wray also performed admirably in the 1500, both setting personal bests and placing 20th and 22nd respectively. Both women ran in the 5:05 range coming within 25 seconds of first place. Maya Herndon also placed well in the 1500 with a time of 5:13.

Sophomore Elias Ammon was able to run in the prestigious Men’s 800 invite and logged a respectable time of 1:53 flat. Ammon’s time was just over a second off his personal best, and it proved to be an impressive feat. Freshman Shane Stevens ran two events, running a 2:01 in the open 800 and a 4:05 in the 1500. The 4:05 time placed him 19th out of 41 runners and fewer than 10 seconds behind first place. Freshman Nathaniel Orban also impressed, dominating the 5k with a college outdoor personal best ranking 24th out of 48. His time of 15:08 puts him in the top five for fastest in the ODAC this season, and is the fourth fastest time in school history.

The Maroons also put multiple runners in the men’s 10k and picked up solid results. Freshman Parker Blosser ran a 32:23 putting him #4 all time in school history and finishing 10th place at the meet. Fellow freshman Samuel Brasler was right behind him running a 32:43 placing 14th and moving up to 6th all time in program history. Both runners 10k times are among the top five fastest in the ODAC season, making way for a promising future in Roanoke College Men’s Distance Running. ‘Noke has had an excellent start to the season, looking to build on in the coming weeks with an exciting schedule ahead.
