Senior Athlete Spotlight: Katherine Seal

Field Hockey also played a game for their families to come watch on September 27th. One family witnessed a particularly special game. The Seal family came down from Maryland to support their daughter #12 defensive player Katherine Seal on her Senior day. Katherine has been a dedicated part of this team for all four years at Roanoke. She ended up choosing Roanoke College in the end because she knew she could be successful both in the classroom and on the field, while still doing the sport she loves. Katherine is pursuing a degree in Health and Exercise Science with a minor in Psychology. Good luck on all your future endeavors Katherine! I hope you had a special senior day!

For the game, the Maroons would be playing a non-conference match-up against Sewanee. Sewanee would score early in both the first quarter and the second quarter for a score of 2-0 during part of the second period. Our team was losing, but that didn’t mean the game was over yet. #24 Brooke Garcia would pass the ball off to teammate #17 Corrine Orlando who passed the ball into the net for a Roanoke point. That was Orlando’s second goal of the ‘25 season, and also was Garcia’s first assist as a Roanoke College Maroon.

The second half of the game did not present many scoring opportunities for either team, solidifying the score at 2-1 in favor of Sewanee. You can’t win them all unfortunately and I think that is an important lesson to keep in mind. That doesn’t mean to just give up though. Try, try, and try again, and “Here We Go, Maroons!”
