Roanoke College’s golf team has been demonstrating remarkable skill and determination in recent tournaments, making waves in the collegiate golf scene. Their recent participation in the Battle at Bulle Rock, hosted by Alvernia University, showcased their prowess. Competing as the only B team among 11 teams, the Maroons faced the challenging Bulle Rock Golf Club course with grit. On the first day, they shot a combined score of 329, placing them 8th. Sam Fansler led with an impressive 77, followed by TJ Whelan’s 81, and Andrew Garcia and Brett Chodos both scoring 87. The second day saw a significant comeback as the Maroons shot a combined score of 309, the second-best four-man score of the day, moving up five spots. Brett Chodos finished strong, birdying three of his final five holes to post a 1-under par 71. TJ Whelan shot a 75, securing a top-10 finish in 8th place. Andrew Garcia recorded an 80, and Sam Fansler rounded out with an 83. The Maroons finished third, with Christopher Newport taking the top spot and Albright as the runner-up.
Their impressive performance continued at the West Pines Invitational, where Palmer Cuny led the team with a score of 75, and Sean Furlong and TJ Whelan both scored 76, bringing the team total to 227. Meanwhile, at the Knights Invitational, Will Miele showcased his consistency, scoring 73 in the first round and 76 in the second, totaling 149 for the first two rounds. Additionally, the Maroons competed in the prestigious Pinehurst Intercollegiate, where they faced some of the strongest teams in the nation. Despite the tough competition, Roanoke College held their own, with standout performances from several team members. The challenging Pinehurst No. 2 course tested their skills, but the Maroons managed to secure respectable scores, further solidifying their reputation as a competitive force in collegiate golf. Their recent performances have set a high bar, and the team is poised to keep climbing the ranks in collegiate golf.
With outstanding performances from their fall season, Roanoke College can not wait to see them continue on in their 2025 campaign when they travel to Georgia to compete at the 32-team Savannah Open hosted by Berry College!
