The music programs have a very busy last weeks of the semester due to holiday concerts.
Several members of the choir and band programs were a part of the production of Little Women and have gotten right back into the swing of regular rehearsals for these performances.
Sunday, the 30th of November, saw the Concert Choir perform at the 41st Lessons and Carols at the Basilica of St. Andrew’s in Roanoke. They performed two services and joined the congregation in hymns during the service as well. This performance was as much a learning experience for the members of the choir as it was a performance, and the choir was thrilled to be able to continue the tradition. On Monday, the 1st of December, the Concert Choir was at Friendship Salem Terrace for another holiday concert with much of the same music from Lessons and Carols.
Thursday, the 4th of December, was the winter concert for the wind and jazz ensembles, as well as the debut of the flute choir. They played a mix of holiday and non-holiday music in Olin Theatre.
Tonight, the marching band has its final event of the semester marching in the annual Salem Christmas Parade. It will take place along Main Street in Salem directly following the lighting of the town Christmas tree at the library. The event is free and open to the public. The Kiwanis Club of Salem organizes the parade each year, coordinating sponsors, groups in the parade, vendors to sell snacks, and more. The tree lighting will be at 6pm with the parade kicking off at 6:15pm.
Many local groups, including some from the Roanoke College campus community, will be part of the parade. The parade has been added to the festivities as a part of Winterfest on campus, and a group will be going to the tree lighting, then hot chocolate will be served on campus after the event.
Hope you all enjoyed the music and are on the lookout for spring performances!
