RC Women’s Lacrosse Shatters Records

Written by Ian Gillen

Our women’s lacrosse team fought hard Wednesday night, but Lynchburg took the win home due to two goals the Hornets scored in the last 2:49. The team started off the season strong with a 6-1 record, but a few tough losses have set them back.  Along the way school and conference records have been shattered, and they are still pushing to knock off a few more records on the way to the ODAC Playoffs.

The ladies who live and love lacrosse started their season with a bang, winning their first three games by a combined 66-10.  In their game against Ferrum, senior attacker Jenn Schwechheimer broke the ODAC record for points scoring 17 goals.  She racked up eight assists and nine goals in the game. Her nine goals were enough for a new Roanoke College record for goals in a single game. The Maroons won the game 25-0 which tied the Roanoke College record for third most goals in a game.

Schwechheimer said “working hard in practice to get better every day” has been crucial to the team’s success so far this season.  With plenty of young players on the roster, the team has also focused on “learning from tough losses,” which has the team excited for their remaining ODAC play.

With only six regular season conference games left, Senior Katie Clements hopes to rise in the record books even further as she currently sits at second all-time for draw controls in Roanoke College history. Her teammate, senior Emma Boris, also hopes to cement herself in the record books as she nears the Roanoke College record in caused turnovers.

After a hard fight against Lynchburg, the ladies are ready to bounce back, pick up a win streak and break some more records. Come see the ladies potentially break some records this Saturday, when the team hosts Bridgewater at Kerr Stadium at 12:00pm.
