Sisters With Voices is the newest organization at RC and is a group that strives to build bonds of sisterhood and empower its members. This exclusively female organization, presented and enabled by The Office of Multicultural Affairs, is designed for women to hear other women. It is a safe space that hopes to enable attendees to relate to each other, relax and then release some of their stress.
Sisters With Voices was created by Sophomore Danielle Petersen and Senior Radiance Mack.
Petersen elaborated on her vision for the group stating “The group was inspired by one that Mrs. Juliet Lowery started in her first years at Roanoke, I was simply privileged that she passed the torch to myself and Radiance Mack. Sisters With Voices (SWV) is a girls group founded upon the beliefs that underrepresented young women should revive, empower and lift each other up. We hope to create a safe haven for the young women of RC where we can have open discussions about what it means to be a young woman in the past, what it means to be one in the present and what it would mean for young women in the future.”
Sisters With Voices will hold its first meeting tonight, Oct. 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chalmers Hall common room.
