Editor’s note: Whether you are a democrat or republican, or if you fall somewhere in the middle – it is important to look at the message people are sending with protests. Frustration from any political party should be taken seriously and considered by all. The Brackety-Ack urges you to consider all sides of the story and approach all viewpoints with an open mind. Above all else, we urge you to be kind and respectful.
7 million Americans rallied this past weekend in the No Kings Protests, organized in complaint of President Donald Trump and his political action. On October 18, 2025 these Americans joined in all 50 states and Washington D.C. to protest. According to NPR News, over 2,600 simultaneous protests took place last Saturday.
The No Kings movement previously held marches this past June, where they reported 5 million Americans attended. The movement is united under a central idea that claims President Trump has been acting more like a king or dictator, rather than a democratic president. According to the No Kings Movement website, they believe that he has been abusing power to increase military presence in “blue states”, to deport and endanger immigrants, and to degrade systems and governing bodies that benefit American citizens. The movement has taken to social media to spread the message since the last organized riots. They continue to spread their message by hosting online conferences and events.
During this past weekend’s protests, citizens joined wearing the color yellow to symbolize unity. Protestors carried signs carrying messages mocking Donald Trump and his choices and policies since his election in 2024.
Governor Glenn Youngkin mobilized the National Guard in Virginia before the protests began, as many speculated that violence would ensue. Texas Governor Greg Abbott also enacted the National Guard in his state.
The Public Religion Research Institute recently completed surveys regarding Donald Trump and his presidential actions. The survey asked people whether they believed Trump was a strong leader with the appropriate amount of power, or a dictator with too much power. The results showed that 56% of people believed Trump’s presidential actions make him seem like a dictator. This data alludes to a strong disapproval of the administration and their agenda, which should be taken seriously regardless of political affiliation.
Donald Trump responded to this weekend’s riots through social media. He reposted artificial intelligence generated videos of him flying over the protests while dropping a brown substance. He claimed that the protesters are “not representative of this country”. Many politicians have also come forward expressing their concern for the protestor’s viewpoints. They claim Trump has been working with Congress while staying in line with checks and balances.
In the past, Americans have mobilized against fascism and monarchies. From the Revolutionary War to protests comparing President Barack Obama to a king, the American people stand up when they believe they are not well-represented.
