RC’s Campus Activities Board is well-known for supplying the student body with fresh entertainment. An important part of campus life, this organization has created beloved events such as the ever popular Bingo and the annual WinterFest bash. Any student looking for a fun way to spend time on the weekends knows CAB is the way to go.
Over a year ago, there were two programming boards on campus. CAB was known as a volunteer organization, but was very small in the number of students who participated. Colket event planners were a paid group of students who assisted in campus entertainment. Each programming board was very similar, yet they had two separate missions.
“It became apparent [to us] that we were confusing the campus” said Mark Petersen, Director of the Colket Center and Student Activities. For example, students were not sure which board operated or created the events such as Friday on the Quad or Open Mic Night.
At the beginning of the 2011-2012 academic year, both boards merged together and retained the name of CAB in the hopes of better embracing the needs and wants of students while lessening confusion.
“Our goal is to better serve the campus” Petersen added.
As of late, CAB will be experiencing many changes. The organization wants to inform the student body of the new executive positions that will be available for the 2012-2013 academic year. These positions include a CAB President and multiple Vice Presidents whose duties will include Internal and External Affairs, Administration, Assessment, and Marketing and Social Media.
Other positions include the Event Supervisors, who will help recruit new CAB volunteers. These volunteers will help provide all the necessary program needs for the event. They will also learn what it takes to run a show while learning all the different aspects of it.
“Whether they know it or not, many students on campus already have the skills and experience needed for these positions” Petersen said. “They could very easily step into these jobs.”
Any student from freshmen to rising seniors are eligible for application. All positions will be paid.
Overall, CAB is working toward a more organized and structured direction. In hopes of better serving the RC campus community, the organization would also like to collaborate and cooperate with other types of campus activities, such as Greek and Residence Life.
“My goal for each individual student involved in CAB would be to give them the skills needed to be productive members of the community and the market place” Petersen said.
