Halfway There

Time seems to fly when you are having fun, or when you need to finish a three-page paper in an hour because you procrastinated all weekend. Now that we are reaching midterms, we find ourselves in the middle point of the fall semester. As fall break approaches we are going to have a week of rest before we take on the other half of the semester. What would be the best use of our time to either prepare ourselves or unwind from the half that we already finished?

Lucky for you I give great recommendations every year. First, looking at the “preparing for the next half” part, it’s important to use this time not only to relax but to check in with yourself and ponder some of these questions: How are my grades doing? Am I having issues doing well in a specific class? Am I missing any assignments that I am able to make up during this week? What’s coming up after this break? Taking some time out of your week to ask yourself these questions can help you take a step back from the chaos and wonder what next steps you should take. It is also helpful to not lose sight of important assignments that might be due right after the break.

But I’m not the grinch of college. The purpose of fall break is, well, “to have a break”. And yes, it is important to still be mindful of your work. But yes, you should also be able to take this time to unwind from the stress of midterms, practice some of the hobbies you haven’t had time for, go out with friends you haven’t seen in a while, or watch that movie that has been on your watch list for a month. Use this break to reset and recharge for the next half fast approaching.
