Every Monday evening from 9-10PM, there is a little event at Mac and Bobs called Theology on Tap, or ToT for short. ToT is hosted by the Reverend Chris Bowen, more commonly known around campus as Chap Chris.
The first thing I would mention to try to recruit my peers is that you receive free drinks and one or two free appetizers for the table depending on how many people are in your group. But ToT is so much more than just a free food event!
Despite the name “Theology,” I have found that many of the conversations revolve more around philosophy, and spirituality as a general concept rather than an examination of any one particular religion. There is a different topic theme and set of discussion questions each week, ranging from “would-you-rathers” to thoughts on morality and the nature of humanity. At the February 2nd ToT, the theme revolved around time loops in honor of Groundhog Day (both the holiday and the movie!)
The atmosphere of ToT has been warm and welcoming every time I have attended – which is many, many times. I go with my suitemates and my girlfriend, and we tend to have very good conversations with each other and with Chap Chris when he stops by the table (although occasionally we do go off topic!)
If you like philosophy and deep discussions with people you care about in a cozy atmosphere, then I absolutely cannot recommend ToT enough. There is always room, so please feel free to stop by next Monday and give it a shot!
