Family weekend sure was fun for the Women’s soccer team this past weekend. This game would be special not only for the families in attendance, but also the seniors on the team. Saturday, September 27th, the Maroons team honored the 13 senior players on the team. Seniors include, but are not limited to Brooke Nicholson, Kennedy McCullough, Addy Hecker, and Emily Moffitt. We here at the Brackety-Ack wish all these ladies the best of luck upon graduation in the spring!
This game started off strong. Senior Brooke Nicholson saw her teammate Rebecca Carr open with a good line of sight to the goal. Nicholson passed to Carr where she managed to score the first goal of the day for Roanoke within the first four minutes of the game. It was a very early score of 1-0 in the Maroons favor. Later that game Carr scored again this time assisted by #12 Riley Dobranski. Although there was no more scoring in the game the Maroons kept on the pressure and kept attempting to score against Guilford. 13 shots on goal were made by the Maroons compared to Guilford’s one. This stat helps us realize the extent to which our defense is playing. The defense consisted of many seniors who helped keep the ball away from the net. That being said, the one time Guilford got close to the net goalkeeper Grace Suchy was able to prevent the opponent from scoring.
A very impressive game from the Maroons! And happy family weekend and senior day to these special athletes. The Women’s soccer team will be back in action at home (Kerr Stadium) on October 8th against Eastern Mennonite University.
