Halloween would not be Halloween without candy. But candy would not be candy without excessive calories. As we prepare to indulge in sweets, let us keep our health in mind. Since we are all obviously planning on hitting the gym the day after Halloween (lol jk) check out these exercises needed to burn off the calories consumed for different kinds of candy. Disclaimer: these calculations are approximate and based on the average height, weight, and ability of a young adult. Exercise and calorie needs vary between individuals.
1 Reese’s cup = 36 cal. = 120 push-ups
1 mini Hershey’s bar = 42 cal. = 100 burpees
1 pack of Smarties = 25 cal. = 106 sit-ups
1 snack size pack of Kit-Kat bars = 70 cal. = brisk walk 1 mi.
1 fun size pack of Skittles = 100 cal. = 30 jump squats
1 Tootsie Roll = 23 cal. = 117 push-ups
1 mini Twix bar = 50 cal. = 5 min. jump rope
1 fun size pack of M&M’s = 73 cal. = 1 mi. jog
Most traditional Halloween candies are 100 calories or less. The above calculations are approximations based on an average human and do not apply strictly or exactly to everyone. There are plenty of exercises that can be done to better accommodate for calorie burning, such as the fitness classes offered here at RC, which are a great way to get back on track after the holiday. Also, one day of sweet snacking will not cause you to gain weight overnight and everyone deserves a treat from time to time.
