Thanksgiving is just around the corner, which means the holiday season is lurking ominously behind it.
While I would love to write a piece about the reasoning to let people start blasting the likes of Bublé and Groban, I’ve decided to rank the top five Thanksgiving foods there are.
Before we go further, I want you to keep in mind that this is 100% not backed up by any facts. All of what follows is solely my opinion and if you disagree, to quote the Dude himself: “Yeah, well, that’s like your opinion, man.”
Now, without further ado I present: The Top Five Thanksgiving Foods.
- Broccoli Casserole – or really any casserole will do. This is by far my favorite dish to eat at Thanksgiving. It is equal parts savory and filling. There are many different recipes to follow but you can’t go wrong with perfectly cooked broccoli layered with cream of mushroom soup with melted cheese and topped with crispy fried onions.
- Mashed potatoes – these are the perfect things for your grandpa with dentures who forgot to put them in and really loves starch. They’re quick to make and can literally be any type of potato. What’s that? You only got Yukon potatoes? BAM! Mash those suckers up! Uh oh, grandma forgot to get some regular potatoes and all you have are sweet potatoes? BOOM! Mashed those sweeties up and you got some mashed sweet potatoes! (Writer’s tip: throw some raisins and pecans into your mashed sweet potatoes with some brown sugar to really sweeten and give some texture.)
- Gravy – while this isn’t a food it is an ABSOLUTE essential for any Thanksgiving. Gravy is a low effort topping that can easily be done while baking something else. I mean, you just pop that pot of gravy on the back burner and set it to simmer and focus on those desserts you promised were done three hours ago.
- Ziti – for all Italian food loving people out there who don’t like Turkey day foods, you can’t go wrong with some ziti. This is pretty much the casserole of Italy (minus the Italian casserole of course). Get some nice hamburger mixed in with some ziti noodles swimming red sauce topped off with a multitude of cheeses. This dish is sure to give you some major food coma symptoms.
- Turkey – I bet you thought I wasn’t even going to mention the big bird himself. Well, despite the Presidential pardon, turkey is on the list. You can’t have Turkey Day without it! There are many ways to cook a turkey, but at the end of the day, it always ends up on the table and smothered with #3 on this list. Easily the longest thing to cook all day, if done right, it is one of the best things.
