What’s the Deal with Campus Food?!

By Ren Monin

If you started reading this article under the impression that it would be a scathing review of the food here at Roanoke College, then you’d be wrong! Instead, this is a list of my top three food items on campus, why I like them, and where to find them!

Starting at spot number three: crispy chicken wrap! As a kid I used to really like getting chicken wraps from fast food places, especially on road trips. The wraps here, served in The Cavern on the first floor of the Colket Center, are heavily reminiscent of those. I like to order mine with double cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, ranch, and honey mustard. Plus, you can get other items like sides and a drink without spending a second meal swipe!

At spot number two: a hot chai latte! This warm tea and milk-based drink was actually new to me; I only tried it for the first time about a year ago! I don’t really like hot chocolate, so this drink is a really good replacement cold-weather drink for me. Sometimes Commons will serve Chai, but it’s not often, so I would recommend getting it from Rooney’s Brews, our campus coffee shop located right inside the entrance of Fintel Library!

And finally… spot number one: fettuccine alfredo! I absolutely love most pasta dishes, and I’m so happy that Commons has a pasta bar open every day! Even better than that is when Commons prepares pasta in specific ways, such as fettuccine alfredo. Commons is a buffet-style dining hall, so you can eat however much you want on just one meal swipe!

Honorable mention goes to the Bangin’ Berry smoothie at Freshens, made with pomegranate, berries, and banana. Also, brownies that are served at the dessert bar of Commons deserve a shout out. Happy eating everyone!
