Farewell to Friends

-To Jennifer

Making friends as an adult is hard. Unfortunately, one can’t just walk up to another person in a park, share some sand-covered cookies, and become friends forever. But once you find the people who have your back during those late study nights or spontaneous trips to go roller skating, the harder thing to do is to see them part. As graduation nears, a bittersweet moment is shared between those friends who are ready to start their lives and those who are left behind for one or two more years.

As someone who is horrible at keeping in touch with people, I always wonder if I will ever get to see these friends again. While I may be bad at texting, I will always put in the effort to still be in their lives– like the annoying fly that randomly flies near their ears. Finding a hobby that everyone enjoys and meeting once a week or a month to practice it together is a great way to bond with your friends. If, like me, you have friends who live too far away, online things such as playing video games or watching a movie at the same time work perfectly!

The most important thing is to remind them that you miss them. Being vulnerable is not easy for everyone, but a simple text or sending a video that reminds you of them can go a long way toward keeping your friendship alive. Speaking for all the non-graduate friends, we will miss you.
