Whether hanging out with friends, meeting for a group project, or just looking for a place to relax, it always starts to feel like I go to the same places over and over again. Sometimes the library is exactly what I need; available computers, a nice coffee shop, and people around working on their own assignments. But other times I sit and wonder about all the other places that one could go.
If you are fairly new to the college, or if you don’t really get around too much, you might not know that every academic building has a student lounge. These are significantly smaller than the sections in the library, but they are perfect if you have a class in that specific building and want to sit and work before or after. Some of them hold free snacks for students to eat while they study or finish up assignments, some have multiple seating areas for bigger groups to meet, and some even have cute plushies that work as study buddies. Just make sure those remain in the room for everyone to enjoy!
To switch things up, you can also look at the many places outside in which you can sit. It might not be convenient all the time, but for certain tasks sitting outside and enjoying the fresh air can help you concentrate. There are many seating areas to choose from, including the benches under the bell or the colorful chairs behind Smith. I would especially recommend these places during the weekend since the outside is quieter when students are not running from class to class.
Moving around where you work can motivate you to complete the assignment you are working on and help you concentrate more by looking at things from a new perspective. And of course, you can always take Rooney’s coffee to any of these locations to keep that sweet treat a part of your studying.
