The PLACE Helps Students Find Their Place

By Devon Mitchell

Roanoke’s Career Services is going through big changes, beginning with its name change. Helping students find Purpose, Life, and Career Exploration is the goal of the PLACE, formerly Career Services. The PLACE has already had numerous grad forums, internship fairs, and other helpful initiatives.

The rebrand to the PLACE comes with the campus-wide initiative “Big on Purpose”. The PLACE helps students find their purpose through one-on-one advising, making connections, alumni access, navigating job and graduate school applications, resume and cover letter development, and professional coaching. To help with professional coaching, The PLACE has added two positions, professional coaches. These professional coaches were brought in to help support students in whatever their next step after graduation is.

The PLACE coordinates programming and planning through the application Handshake. Once logged in with a Roanoke College email and password, students are able to schedule appointments, browse events, and find useful documents. Students can also browse job opportunities through Handshake and make connections!

If you are interested in all the opportunities the PLACE has to offer, you can visit them at their temporary location on the third floor of the Fintel Library or check out their page on roanoke.edu– just search for the PLACE.
