Lessons From The Bachelor(ette) – By a Major Fan Girl: Episode Five

Written by Kaelyn Spickler

Bachelor Nation’s televisions have been blessed with the newest season of The Bachelorette, which first premiered on October 13, and here’s the scary thing- bachelorette, Clare, already believes she met her husband.

Just minutes into her meeting with 31-year-old former pro football player, Dale, Clare announced that she thinks she met her husband. This sent Bachelor Nation into a frenzy as this had never been said on the first night. In fact, this had never been said at all until the final rose is about to be handed out. Of course, Dale later received the first impression rose from a gushing Clare who said she had been waiting for that.

It’s too early to tell if this is one of those romanticized moments of love at first sight, but bachelorettes do have a trend of picking the man they give their first impression rose too. Longtime fans may remember Ali Fedotowsky giving Roberto the first impression rose and going on to become engaged to him. The same trend occurred four seasons back to back with bachelorette Kaitlyn and Shawn, bachelorette JoJo and Jordan, bachelorette Rachel and Bryan, and bachelorette Becca and Garrett. Only time will tell if the first impression rose magic works on Dale, but the majority of Bachelor Nation is convinced it will.

Suspicions of Clare messaging Dale before the show went into overdrive throughout the first episode but viewers were left even more confused when she admitted to messaging a different contestant before the show began. How many men was Clare messaging before the show? Do these men have the upperhand? Dale receiving the first impression rose definitely gives him an upper hand along with a target on his back from the other contestants.

This season will be sure to teach us one of two things. Either love at first sight could exist, or maybe it’s best to have more than a two minute conversation with someone before you decide you are going to marry them (especially since only two of those five bachelorettes who picked the man they gave the first impression rose are still together).

For Clare’s sake, I hope love at first does exist because this 39-year-old woman is a fighter for love, and if that’s the case, then rumor has it Tayshia Adams will be on our screens soon.
