For the first ODAC game of the men’s soccer season, they took on Lynchburg. Both teams were held scoreless through double overtime, resulting in the second draw of the season. Roanoke now has a record of 8-0-2, which still counts as undefeated. Against the rival Lynchburg squad, the Maroons had 19 shots with five of those on goal. Defensively, sophomore, Zach Behe posted five saves to keep Lynchburg out of the net. Overall, the game was a close, hard-fought match with both teams statistics, specifically shots, being about equal for the entirety of the game. In the closing minutes of the game, Behe was able to save a pivotal shot on goal to force overtime.
“I think what was important was that our defense held up strong. For most of the second half they were on our side of the field but we didn’t give up very many shots. We just weren’t able to finish them but it was a good game overall,” Behe said.
Coming off an impressive 4-1 victory against Eastern Mennonite, the men’s soccer team will be back in action again at Randolph-Macon at 7pm on Saturday the 5th. Their perfect record will be on the line once again as the team intends to keep that status for the remainder of the season.
“We are still undefeated so our hopes as a team are to keep the momentum going and energy high and our overall goal is to come away with an ODAC title come November,” Behe said.
The team has had 10 games so far with 27 goals and a shot percentage of .203. It’s clear to see how this team has maintained such a flawless record. The Maroons stand sixth on the leaderboard against other ODAC teams but are the only team to hold an undefeated record. If the men’s team can keep it up their goals of a title should be within reach.
