“I am tired,” a phrase that has become so common in my everyday conversations. Usually when people ask me how I am doing, I give the usual answer, “I’m good, thanks.” Recently all this shifted. Restarting uni back was such a bittersweet moment for me. On one hand, I was enjoying being back home and being around my people. On the other hand, I wanted to get back to the grind and #SecuretheDegree. My schedule this semester is more packed than it had ever been and in addition to that, I am working more jobs than I had previously. In my head, I though this would just be another semester of going through the motions, but things took a different turn.
I work as a peer mentor, diversity peer educator, and as well as a co-editor for my school’s paper. As I set my schedule for classes and looked at my work schedule, I started thinking about how I was going to ensure that I was giving my all. I was accustomed to a life where I do what I have to do, and keep it moving; not necessarily doing the bare minimum but more so just going through the motions. As I began working, I slowly pushed myself to look for what my purpose was in each of those roles. In each of my jobs, I am put in a position where I have the capability to influence someone in some way. I was and I am being given a position to have an impact on a person or people. This led me to think that we are not here for solely one purpose, but rather to fulfill many different purposes.
Every day we encounter different people and have different interactions, through these experiences and interactions, we are able to impact someone. Therefore, we are designated to have multiple purposes that we must passionately seek out. Had I not sat down and asked myself what my purpose was in each of these roles, I would have had the same perspective of going through the motions. Finding your purpose in a relationship or experience, makes all things more worthwhile.
Think about where you are, what you are experiencing and the people you interact with. Are you pushing to understand your purpose? Are you getting the most out of what you are currently doing or pursuing. If not, it is time to start passionately looking for your purpose.
Intentionally and passionately pursue your purpose.
