For the last two consecutive weeks, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) has hauled ass to put on events for the student body. One of which was the annual Fall Concert held on Sept. 21 featuring rapper B.o.B. Like anything else, grumbles echoed across campus as many students wished to host a more prominent artist, but B.o.B. proved to be a major success.
Jayna Jean-Jules, senior and CAB staff member, said, “It was an awesome experience. Everyone on the team was super excited and had a great time…we had a great turnout and I couldn’t have asked for a better event.” The staff seemed to enjoy hanging out with B.o.B. behind the scenes too, as he took pictures and selfies with the crew, exhibiting a “cool, funny, and chill” disposition.
Lots of effort goes into the production of the fall concert each year, with Stage Tech and Event Staff largely partaking in the hard work as well.
Less than a week later, CAB produced another event – Hour of Dates Live held in Cavern, hosted by juniors Kaelyn Spickler and Kendall Sperber. This is an annual event in Cavern, but Spickler hosts a weekly Hour of Dates radio show on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. (tune in to listen at WRKE.org or 100.3FM).
Hour of Dates Live also occurred earlier this year in March, but it is difficult to compare the two events, as this go around was complete with a new group of people. Spickler was pleased with this year’s turnout and feels optimistic about the dates that were set up. She hopes that by hosting Hour of Dates, she will one day be discovered by Bachelor/Bachelorette host Chris Harrison and become his co-host.
Kat Mateo, senior, took the stage at this year’s Hour of Dates Live as the bachelorette. Blindfolded, she listened to the responses of a panel of men hoping to win her over. She found compatibility with Luke Wray, sophomore. Ben Crissey, junior, was the lone bachelor at the event. Sitting blindly before a group of women, he found Sam Miller, sophomore, to be his lucky lady.
The romantic fate of these couples is to be determined, but here’s to hoping that it works out for these lovebirds.
