Virginia Watercolor Society Brightens Up Olin

Written by Jordan Hanson

From Sept. 9 through Oct. 7, 2018, Roanoke College is hosting the Virginia Watercolor Society’s 39th Annual Exhibition, every day from 1−4 p.m.

98 watercolor paintings, chosen from over 400 submissions, fill the walls of both the Smoyer and Olin galleries.

“The most amazing part of this year’s exhibition is that there is so much variety in subject matter and style…It is truly inspiring to see contemporary paintings from all over Virginia and how they come together in one cohesive exhibition,” said Lacey Leonard, Assistant Director of Galleries.

The Virginia Watercolor Society, created in 1979, looks to foster interest in watercolor and hosts this exhibition and other events to promote the art. You don’t have to take our word for it − come out to Olin in the next few weeks to see these amazing paintings for yourself. Maybe you’ll find inspiration, or at least a little peace and quiet in the midst of busy campus life.
