Several other shows received honors in the drama category, including “Westworld” for Best Supporting Actress, “The Americans” for Best Lead Actor and writing and “The Crown” for Best Lead Actress and directing. HBO and Netflix ended the night in a tie with 23 Emmys each (LA Times).
The 2018 Emmy Awards were hosted by Michael Che and Colin Jost (CBS News). The ceremony opened with a musical number drawing attention to Hollywood’s lack of diversity, and later a video showed Che handing out “Reparation Emmys” to honor talented black performers who had never received Emmys for their roles. Highlights of the night included Glenn Weiss’ surprise on-stage proposal to his girlfriend and Henry Winkler’s Emmy win, which came over 40 years after his first nomination (New York Times).
