On Monday, Apple rolled out its latest software update, iOS 17 introducing several new features and improvements to the operating system. Apple also revealed several features to look forward to in the upcoming year. The update emphasizes usability over aesthetics, something iPhone users will be happy about.
In the Messages app, the brand new “Check In” feature allows users to alert family or friends about their travel status and provide real-time updates on their trip. iOS 17 also adds improved search filters and audio message transcripts to improve the usability of Messages. Finally, Users are now able to create Live Stickers using their photos, which then can be shared in Messages or third-party apps such as Snapchat or Instagram.
Apple has revamped the AirDrop function entirely. Users can now share photos, documents, and so much more by simply holding two phones close together. They have also unveiled NameDrop which allows a seamless contact-sharing experience.
iOS 17 does not stop there; it also introduced an autofill feature for verification codes received through the mail app. Plus, maps on Google Maps can now be downloaded for offline use, enhancing the navigation capabilities.
Apple also announced a few upcoming additions to iOS. Later this year, the Journals app will be released for an encrypted journaling space from your phone. Other announcements included collaborative Apple Music playlists and enhanced PDF autofill capabilities.
Apple is finally listening more closely to the consumer’s wants. The smoother airdrop feature, easier autofill, and audio message transcripts are all previous problems that have been vocalized by both consumers and critics alike. Moreover, the “Check In” feature provides safety, and peace of mind to all users.
