Halloween in the Halls

By Nina Earle

Halloween is coming and feels closer than ever! I have lived on campus for three years, and this year people are definitely going all out. Almost every door has decorations on it, from spider webbing to candy, pumpkin lights, and jelly letters. The spirit is high, and has been for quite a while. Two rooms even had their decorations up long before fall break even started. I think it is great to see so many people excited for Halloween.

During my first two years on campus, I lived in Maxey Hall. As a group, we did not decorate. We all lived in the space, but no one was going crazy besides putting cute notes on whiteboards on the doors or the name tags that the RA puts up. Back home, except for a couple of people who decorate their yards, Halloween is not a big deal outside of the actual day.

This is one of the many things that has been exciting and fun about living on the South side of campus this year. Everyone seems so pumped up and excited to have fun. Just as I was moving back in after fall break, there were people playing jump scares in the hallway with their friends.

It is really nice to see how much people love this holiday. When I look at the decorations or see people joking around in the hallways, it distracts me from the long list of to-dos that I have. It’s nice to not walk down the hall in a rush, but to go slowly so I can see all the messages on boards or what candy is tied up in spider webbing. As we get back into the swing of things after break and finals start approaching, remember to stop and have fun. We are in college, and there is so much to do on and off campus as the holiday season approaches. So go out, see some dorm door decorations, and have fun!
