Finals season is here!. My friends and I call this time “hell week,” which we find to be a rather humorous nickname for what could be considered the absolute worst week in the semester. If you’re doing great right now, I’m glad for you! And if you’re struggling like me, you’re not alone.
As the title suggests, this is an open love letter to my fellow Maroons. I love you. All of you. We’re a community here at Roanoke College. I love the students I see across campus at all hours of the day. I love the professors who provide the very foundation of what a college should be. I love the charming buildings. I love the staff who ensure that the student experience remains as excellent as possible. I love the plants and animals making their home here, and I love the mountains and the sky that provide the backdrop for the work of art that is Roanoke College. I love my friends who support me unconditionally, and I love my classmates, who I may not be as close with but they are no less significant. I love the strangers who show moments of kindness every single day, and I love the girl and the boy that have made me a constant in their lives.
To me, love is unconditional, and it isn’t exclusive. I believe that love is happiness, and I am happy here. As we head into this next “hell week” and into the holiday break, I urge you all to think about all the love in your own hearts. You may find that there’s more to love than you had ever realized!
