Sweet Vengeance

After RC Men’s basketball team had a close loss to Eastern University in their very first game of the season, they have not looked back. The Maroons have won their past five games and maintained an overall record of five wins and one loss. We only lost that game by one field goal, but since then have continued to improve, winning against all opponents by double digits except for the most recent game against Randolph College. That game was a couple of days before Thanksgiving break, and neither squad was going to let the other off easy.

The match was quite competitive, with lots of aggressive defense and impressive offensive skills followed by baskets from both teams. The Wildcats of Randolph were leading in the first half, but Roanoke was eventually able to catch up going into the half with a narrow lead. After the team meetings at half-time, Randolph would overtake the lead going on a 12-2 run. It was a little scary watching the Maroons going down in score, but they would eventually come back and tie the game at 58 a piece. Josh McClary and Joshua Morse would greatly contribute to the second half offense, contributing a combined 27 points in the second half. A couple of penalties going against the Wildcats would mean lots of chances for Roanoke to score more points on the free throws.

The game was very close until about three minutes left in the game, and at that point it was pretty much over for Randolph as they were trailing by seven points. Roanoke won the game 88-82 and enjoyed a couple of days for break. Great work, Maroons!
