Theologies on Tap

After fall break, everything changes. Classes pick up, events are always happening, and due dates and exams start to stare you in the face. The few weeks before Thanksgiving is somehow both long and fast paced for all students. Even with the presidential election hovering over our heads, everyone is busy. This makes scheduling time to hang out with friends really difficult. It is hard, but there are ways to do it!

For me, it all started with what felt like a stupid requirement that Honors freshmen get a certain amount of activity hours. However, I ended up finding a fun thing that became integrated into the schedules of me and my friends. Theology on Tap, or TOT as we all affectionately call it, is one night a week full of bickering, laughing, discourse, and discussion. Hosted by Chaplain Chris Bowen, TOT is held at Mac and Bob’s with free appetizers and fun philosophic or spiritual conversations. Chap Chris has managed to create a space that is open to everyone, and a diverse array of opinions can be shared. Changing from topic to topic as the months pass, he uses quotes, riddles, and ‘would you rather’ scenarios to create an atmosphere that is open for both deep thought and cracking jokes.

If you have not had the opportunity to come to TOT, then I encourage you to grab some friends and join us. TOT is on Monday nights from 9 pm to 10 pm at Mac and Bob’s. This is so that night classes and most other events do not discourage people from coming. As a junior, this is my third year on campus, and I can say with certainty that Chap Chris is one of the best resources on this campus. Even if you’re not ready for the loud crazy chaos that is TOT, his door in Morehead is always open to anyone who needs to talk.
