Are Sleigh Bells Ringing?

With Halloween now behind us, it’s time to focus on a new holiday. But nobody can decide on what holiday!

Some stores began displaying Christmas items before Halloween even passed. When I went into Target two days after Halloween, multiple Christmas songs were already being played over the radio speakers. It’s a pretty common joke that each year Christmas creeps up earlier and earlier, but I was curious about how people actually feel about it!

This of course led me to put out another poll on my Instagram story. I received several more responses this time than I had previously, with a grand total of 50! The specific question I asked was “Are you listening to Christmas music yet?” Out of the 50 responses, 32 replied “no,” citing that it’s too early to do so. This was a whopping 64% of the votes, almost two thirds! 18 voters replied that they are in fact listening to Christmas music now, “defrosting” along with Mariah Carey and her hit “All I Want for Christmas is You.”

My vote was in the “no” category. Growing up, we would wait to put up our Christmas tree and play festive music until after December 10th, which is my mom’s birthday. However, in recent years my mother has relaxed on that rule and begins getting into the Christmas spirit earlier. My personal time to listen to Christmas music is after Thanksgiving is over. I like to give each holiday some attention!

Regardless of what you’re starting to celebrate, this is a season of love, warmth, and family. I hope you all get to spend time with the people you love in the coming weeks!
