Pre-Registration Recommendations

The Fall semester is coming to an end and pre-registration starts this week. It can be a stressful time if you aren’t really sure what classes you should take. Thankfully, since last year Roanoke College has provided a ROA class that should be able to help clear out any doubts. If that is still not enough to ease your nerves, then keep reading for an upperclassman’s advice!

  1. Advisor meetings: they can seem tedious and inconvenient at times but believe me when I say that they are a hundred percent necessary if you are struggling to create your schedule. Come prepared with some classes you would like to take and don’t be afraid to ask for clarification on requirements.
  2. This leads me to my second point. Be aware of INQs and the substitutions you are allowed to take! As of now, you are allowed three substitutions for different sections of the INQs. This means one substitution for the 270/271, one substitution for the 260s, etc. Be sure to check which classes can be approved to be a substitution and even better if they can count for a major or minor!
  3. Research the school’s course offerings. I can’t tell you how many times I regretted not paying enough attention to the classes being offered and just settling for the first one I found. There are a ton of super interesting classes that might interest you, so make sure to do extensive research on the courses AND the major checksheets to find what fits best in your college journey.

Don’t be scared to ask for help and try things out. You might find some classes you never knew you would love! It’s okay not to have everything completely planned out, but make sure that you know what options you have. Good luck!
