Girl’s Field Hockey at Roanoke is doing well, although they have recently had some tough losses within the ODAC conference. The Maroons have been playing some difficult, ranked teams in the past couple of weeks including Lynchburg, Shenandoah, and Stevens; all of which have been close games, but unfortunate losses. The Maroons have been able to come back and win big against their opponents, namely Southern Virginia and Randolph-Macon after these tough losses. In Field Hockey’s most recent game, October 19th against Randolph-Macon, Senior Krista DeModna scored with an assist from fellow senior Tess Taloumis. These two as well as seven other seniors and graduate students have had a great season alongside individual stats and team stats.

In a positive light, the Maroons have taken more shots and more overall goals in comparison to their opponents. Out of Roanoke’s 29 goals, 10 have been scored by Senior attack player Grace Vernarelli. On September 7th against Allegheny and again on October 3th against Southern Virginia, she completed a hat trick and scored three goals! This is quite a feat in any sport, and the Roanoke College community is so glad Grace has been able to accomplish this feat twice so far in her senior season! Also, in the match against Southern Virginia, Graduate Student Lindsey Keyes managed to score not once, not twice, not even three times, but four times! This statistic is quite impressive by itself, but out of a 60-minute game she only played in about 12 minutes. Mathematically speaking, Keyes could have scored a goal every three minutes that she was in the game.

As the Maroons come to the end of the season, they will continue their conference matchups and eventually compete in the ODAC tournament in early November. The next game for Roanoke will be an away match against Bridgewater College this Wednesday, October 23rd, at 7 PM.
