Roanoke’s GO Fest: A Weekend of Outdoor Adventure and Community Spirit

This past weekend, Roanoke came alive with the vibrant energy of the 14th annual GO Fest, a celebration of outdoor adventure and community spirit. Held from October 18th to 20th, the festival attracted thousands of visitors to Elmwood and Explore Parks, offering a diverse array of activities, vendors, and entertainment.

GO Fest, organized by the Roanoke Outside Foundation and Roanoke Parks and Recreation, has grown to become a hallmark event for the region, showcasing the unique outdoor recreation opportunities available in the Roanoke Valley. This year’s festival did not disappoint, featuring everything from rock climbing and paddleboarding to BMX stunt shows and live music performances.

One of the highlights of the festival was the extensive lineup of vendors, which catered to a wide range of interests and tastes. Outdoor gear enthusiasts were thrilled to see brands like Oboz, which not only showcased their latest products but also engaged attendees in trail projects at Explore Park and Mill Mountain. For those looking to upgrade their camping gear, Walkabout Outfitter and Mast General offered a variety of high-quality equipment and apparel.

Food lovers were equally delighted with the diverse culinary offerings. Local favorites such as Blue Ridge BBQ and Scratch Biscuit Company served mouth-watering dishes, while food trucks like The Wandering Donut and Nomad Coffee provided sweet treats and refreshing beverages. The festival also featured a beer garden, where attendees could sample craft beers from regional breweries like Parkway Brewing Company and Big Lick Brewing Company.

In addition to the vendors, GO Fest offered a plethora of activities designed to engage and entertain visitors of all ages. The Adventure Outpost was a popular spot, offering hands-on experiences like slacklining, artificial caving with Cavesim, and even a lumberjack show. The festival also included a dedicated Kids Zone, where younger attendees could enjoy activities such as face painting, a climbing wall, and interactive nature exhibits.

Live music was another major draw, with performances from local and regional bands creating a festive atmosphere throughout the weekend. The Campfire Stage hosted a variety of acts, from folk and bluegrass to rock and indie, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.

GO Fest not only provided a weekend of fun and adventure but also fostered a sense of community and connection. Attendees had the opportunity to reconnect with friends, meet new people, and explore the natural beauty of the Roanoke Valley. The festival’s success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the organizers, volunteers, and vendors who made it all possible.

As GO Fest continues to grow, it remains a beloved tradition for Roanoke residents and visitors alike, celebrating the spirit of outdoor adventure and the vibrant community that makes the region so special.
