Heading into the final stretch before exams and graduation, it is a great time for an update on the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams.
The men’s lacrosse team holds a 10-4 overall record with 5 conference wins. They are currently on a winning streak, coming out victorious against ODAC rivals Ferrum College, Randolph-Macon College, Bridgewater College, and Hampden-Sydney College. In a recent win against the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets, Luca Docking led in goals with 6, followed by George Gilbert with 4. Docking and Gilbert contributed to the total of 18 goals scored by Roanoke, resulting in a 4-point win over the Yellow Jackets. Two Maroons, Luca Docking and Luke Kammerman, have been named ODAC Players of the Week this season for their contributions to the men’s team. Kammerman was honored on April 4th for his performance the week prior against the University of Mary Washington and Hampden-Sydney, scoring 13 goals with 8 assists over two victories for the Maroons. Docking was honored this week after scoring a total of 16 points over Bridgewater College and Randolph-Macon College. Docking is now ranked 5th in the ODAC for assists with 20. As the men’s lacrosse team continues to race towards a top seed position for the ODAC tournament, we wish them the best in their coming games.
Recently ranked 20th by USA Lacrosse Magazine, the women’s lacrosse team has proven to be dominant in conference play. With an overall 9-3 record and 4 conference wins, the women’s team continues to push towards tournament play. A recent win against Bridgewater saw 7 goals from Lilly Blair, 2 goals from Sydney Harrison, Nicole Harrison, and Emerson Foster, and 1 goal from Grace Koutouzis, Maddie Stopkoski, Riley Chase, Libby Bowman, Tiernan Conner, and Kate Loughran. In their 19-4 victory, the team had 20 ground balls, 3 saves, and 13 draw controls. In the ODAC, Libby Bowman was honored this week as ODAC Player of the Week for her 3 goals over Lynchburg and an additional 3 over Shenandoah in the two Roanoke victories. The women continue in their season with hopes for impressive tournament play to conclude this notable season.
