After a rough bout of post-break competition, Roanoke’s tennis teams hit the road to take on the Ferrum Panthers. Despite the inclement weather, the Maroons were able to put their consistency to the test.
For the men, the #3 doubles team of Dalton Capobianco and Hunter Adams started off with a perfect 8-0 win. They were followed by the #2 team of Thomas Hodges and Carter Hylton who served up a solid 8-3 victory. Zach Kreibel and Hardt Lesko in the #1 doubles team faced a bit of a challenge against the Panthers, but were able to still grab an 8-5 win. In singles competition, Michael Morrell and Thomas Hodges put up stellar performances as they each won both of their sets. Dalton Capobianco, Lance Beheler, Zach Kreibel, and Hardt Lesko picked up on the momentum and all walked away with wins.
Margriet Bostoen led the charge for the women’s team as she swept in the #3 singles competition and won in her #2 doubles matchup alongside Julia Bassett. The Maroons were the team to beat in the doules competition, with scores of 8-0, 8-1, and 8-2 across the three pairs. They continued their success in the singles competition with several 6-0 and 6-1 scores from Halle Fernstrum, Julia Bassett, Sophie Bartholomaus, and Dana Meyer. Senior Lucy Collins rounded out the Maroons with two 6-2 wins at the #1 singles spot.
Both teams have proven that they are ready for challenging matchups and are ready for the rest of their season. Their final home match will be Saturday, April 23 at 1 p.m. on the courts at Elizabeth Campus. Go Maroons!
