We’ve been waiting patiently since December 2020 for the joy and happiness only one special day can bring. Sharing the goodwill of man in the form of a magical gift, only the most brilliant app designers can give us. Well folks, it’s finally here, Spotify Wrapped.
Opening my Spotify app on Wednesday morning, I nearly jumped for joy as I saw the words, “2021 Wrapped”. I think it’s safe to say many of us lost a little faith in humanity as we entered into the second year of COVID-19, but I think CEO Daniel Ek restored a little bit of that faith this week (despite being a sketchy billionaire). I quickly contacted all my friends to compare and contrast our unique yearly stats, and was pleased to find that the beloved Spotify genre ‘Stomp and Holler’ was not in my top genres for 2021. For the rest of the day I spent my time scrolling through social media looking at everyone’s Spotify Wrapped, not working on the multiple semester end assignments I have yet to start.
Spotify added some new features this year, including your music vibe. I personally felt like the main character of a teen drama seeing my vibe was joy and yearning. Spotify made me the main character, complete with a movie soundtrack with songs to play during a “kissing in the rain” scene or the “opening credits”.
I think I can safely say this past Wednesday was the highlight of many of our weeks. Whether you enjoy looking at everyone’s Spotify Wrapped or not, at least the world was a little happier this past week.
