Students this semester may have noticed that RC has partnered with TimelyMD to offer additional healthcare services that will supplement increased demand for RC Student Health & Counseling services. This new telehealth program, named Maroon.Care, gives students 24/7 access to a variety of medical and mental health resources. These services are free to residential students and available at affordable rates to students who are commuters or taking virtual classes from home.
Students can access the Maroon.Care system by visiting www.Maroon.Care or by texting “MAROONCARE” to 474747. Texting that number will provide a link to download the TimelyMD app on a mobile device. Students must register with their RC email and can create a new password for the account. Students who register by March 15 will be entered into a drawing for a 50 dollar Amazon gift card.
Maroon.Care offers a variety of healthcare services including medical, TalkNow, scheduled counseling, psychiatry appointments, and health coaching. Medical services can treat a variety of common illnesses and symptoms, including cold and flu, sinus infection, and allergies. TalkNow offers on demand counseling that can be accessed anywhere, anytime. Counseling can be scheduled at regular appointment times via scheduled counseling. Psychiatry appointments are available with a referral from a mental health or medical provider. Health coaching provides access to a nutritional specialist to help students adopt healthier lifestyle behaviors related to sleep issues, weight management, and more.
“The College has experienced an increased demand for all counseling and health services, and Maroon.Care provides additional student-focused medical, mental health and wellness practitioners to serve all Roanoke College students. Maroon.Care also provides access to a diverse group of licensed counselors, which has been a need identified by many Roanoke students,” wrote RC Student Health and Counseling Services in a recent email to students.
According to that email, the average wait time is five minutes for medical appointments, with a 10-minute average wait time for diagnosis. Students who are under 18 years of age will need a parent or guardian to register for them. Maroon.Care is meant to supplement, not replace, in-person Student Health and Counseling resources. Student Health and Counseling Services can be contacted by calling (540) 375-2286 or visited online at roanoke.edu/health.
